General Programme - Competence Headquarters


The Competence Headquarters funding focus is on the strengthening and development of existing R&D headquarters by networking with Austrian research institutions. Furthermore, the establishment of Competence Headquarters can be supported through this funding instrument. Objectives on the one hand are strengthening and development of the existing Competence Headquarters by cooperation with an Austrian research institutes in response to force the innovative power of Austria as an atractive research base and on the other hand for setting up new Competence Headquarters in Austria in order to create highly interesting research and technology fields (competence and personnel) in Austria and therefore to attract international operating companies from the mid and long term point of view.

Start-ups, small and medium-sized companies, internationally acitve major companies doing business in Austria.

non-repayable subsidies; 25 % of personnel costs and 50 % of the costs for the cooperation with an Austrian research institution

Application and decision process

Submission of an application is possible at any time and will be part of swift approval processes. The evaluation is carried out throughout a special scoreboard and connected to a project monitoring

Terms and duration of project funding

24-36 months

Fundable costs
Includes all expenses and charges which are incurred directly, in reality and additionally (to the usual operational expenses) for the duration of the funded research activities (i.e. no earlier than when the application is received by the FFG). Funding is provided for personnel costs, investments in research infrastructure and other costs (third party services, material costs, travel costs, patent application costs).
