Service Innovations are a tremendous competitive factor. The goal of the "Smart and Digital Services initiative" in general is to make awareness for R&D in service industry and for services as added value for the traditional industries. Therefore the funding instrument „General Programme" is opened for non-technological innovations. Opening research funding to non-technological innovation is crucial for supporting research and development in services and for strengthening service innovations due to the heterogeneity and multidimensional characteristics of the innovations in this area.
