A new approach to deliver concrete solutions to today’s major Challenges

The EU Missions represent bold, high-visibility initiatives that demonstrate the tangible benefits of European investments in research and innovation. Their overarching objective is to deliver sustainable and rapidly implementable solutions to some of the most pressing societal and environmental challenges by 2030:

  • Mission Adaptation to Climate Change: This mission seeks to make Europe and Austria climate-resilient by 2030. It aims to support at least 150 European regions and municipalities in enhancing their climate resilience.

  • Mission Cancer: Aligned with the European Beating Cancer Plan, this mission aims to save the lives of over 3 million people by 2030 through prevention, treatment, and innovative solutions, while improving quality of life for patients.

  • Mission  Restore our Ocean, Seas and Waters by 2030: The goal is to improve the condition of Europe’s oceans, seas, and freshwater systems by 2030 through pollution removal, ecosystem restoration, and the promotion of a sustainable blue economy.

  • Mission Climate Neutral and Smart Cities :This mission supports 100 European cities in achieving climate neutrality by 2030, enabling them to act as “Living Labs” for experimentation and innovation.

  • Mission A Soil Deal for Europe: The aim is to establish 100 “Living Labs” and flagship projects by 2030 to foster the transition to healthy soils, thereby securing essential ecosystem services for sustainable food production and a balanced environment.

These ambitious objectives can only be achieved through coordinated action at regional, national, and European levels. European research collaboration connects experts across the EU and beyond to enable outstanding research outcomes and practical implementation.

Austria possesses significant technical expertise, which, together with region-specific knowledge, ensures the successful execution of measures at the national level. Accordingly, dedicated support is available at both European and national levels to facilitate participation and contribute to the success of EU Missions in Austria and across Europe.
