Through the Digital Health Austria initiative, aws, FFG and LBG support innovative projects that strengthen Austria’s healthcare system and promote modern, patient-centred healthcare.

The initiative focuses on digital solutions, equitable access to healthcare taking gender-specific differences into account, strengthening structurally disadvantaged regions, and delivering sustainable improvements to the healthcare system.

The initiative comprises two calls for proposals, complemented by additional measures to facilitate networking, project development and project support.

Funding is available for:

  • Flagship Projects
  • Collaborative R&D Projects (including Ideas Labs)

In addition to the two calls for proposals and the Ideas Labs, there are supporting measures designed to assist applicants and funded project teams.

Collaborative R&D Projects (including Ideas Labs)

Time period: Starting in 2027

Through its Collaborative R&D Projects, Digital Health Austria supports new research and innovation projects at the intersection of healthcare, digitalisation and society.
The programme focuses on interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary consortia comprising partners from academia, industry and the healthcare sector, working together to develop innovative, application-oriented solutions.
Participation in the preceding Ideas Labs is a prerequisite for submitting a proposal. During these facilitated workshops, participants further develop their project ideas, establish new collaborations, and gain insights into project implementation, exploitation, regulatory requirements and societal considerations.

Accompanying measures

Period: Starting June 16, 2026

As part of Digital Health Austria, applicants and funded projects have access to a range of accompanying support services provided by experts from aws and LBG.
Even before submitting a proposal, applicants may participate in voluntary activities such as webinars and networking events to prepare flagship projects. These activities are designed to help participants further develop their project ideas, identify suitable project partners and strengthen the quality of their proposals during the application phase.
The support covers topics including intellectual property protection and exploitation strategies, open innovation, inclusive approaches and impact design.
