Target group:
- Fellows and the target group of the programme are all individuals with an interest in research and startups who have at least a bachelor's degree.
Formal requirements:
- The technologies or research results used are the property of an eligible organisation.
- An individual IP exploitation agreement based on the respective spin-off strategy of the university or research institution exists.
- A declaration of support from the research institution is available.
- A letter of motivation and recommendation from the host is available.
- A one-page description of the planned business model in the form of a Lean Canvas or Business Model Canvas is available.
- The fellow(s) must be employed by the university or research institution at the start of the project.
Funding conditions:
- The funding amounts to a minimum of €100,000 and a maximum of €500,000 and is provided in the form of non-repayable grants.
- The funding rate is 100%. This funding can be used to finance the costs of the fellow as well as development costs and third-party services.
- The duration of a spin-off fellowship is a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 18 months.
- If a startup is established during the term, this will result in the premature termination of the project.
Application:
- Applications must be submitted by an eligible organisation, whereby one organisation may submit more than one application for funding.
- The fellow takes on the project management and acts as the contact person for the FFG.
- If there are several fellows in a project, one person from the team must be nominated as project manager.
- If the technologies or research results are owned by several universities and/or research institutions, only one university/research institution may submit an application. The other universities/research institutions may be involved in the project as third-party service providers. The IP exploitation agreement must set out the commitment to exploitation and any returns to the other universities/research institutions.

- Austrian universities (in accordance with the Universities Act 2002 - UG, BGBl. I No. 120/2002)
- Austrian private universities (in accordance with PrivHG)
- Austrian universities of applied sciences (in accordance with the Universities of Applied Sciences Act FHG)
- Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW)
- Ludwig Boltzmann Society (LBG)
- Institute of Science and Technology Austria (IST Austria)
- COMET centres within the scope of their non-economic activities in the non-K sector
- Silicon Austria Labs GmbH
- Joanneum Research Forschungsgesellschaft mbH
- Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT)
- Federal museums, provided that no local authority acts as the responsible body
