ERC & EIC Short Talk: Bioprinting functional organs

09.06.2026, 11:00 - 12:00
FFG and partner organisations cordially invite to their series of short online talks sharing the practical experiences of scientists and entrepreneurs with transferring results from basic research projects. The sessions put the spotlight on the ERC Proof of Concept Grant as well as the EIC Pathfinder and Transition Instrument in from the perspective of various scientific fields.

The sixth short talk will focus on bioengineering, showcasing projects at the intersection of 3D printing and stem cell biology, and is organised in collaboration with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and EU Liaison Office of the German Research Organisations (KoWi) – Kooperationsstelle EU der Wissenschaftsorganisationen (KoWi).

Our guest is Riccardo Levato, Associate Professor of Translational Bioengineering and Biomaterials at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Utrecht University, and at the Department of Orthopaedics of the University Medical Center Utrecht. Riccardo Levato will talk about his insights and learnings with a Proof of Concept Grant stemming from his ERC Starting Grant VOLUME-BIO: Volumetric light-driven bioprinting capturing complex physiological shape, size and function in artificial tissues and organoids, and leading to the EIC Transition project REVOLV: REliable animal-free and high-throughput VOLumetric bioprinting of functional 3D assays.

The ERC & EIC Short Talk starts with a short introduction of the ERC Proof of Concept Grant, the EIC Pathfinder and the EIC Transition instrument, the key Horizon Europe funding instruments to support the translation of research results into new products or services. Afterwards, speakers talk about their experiences with these schemes and will answer participants´ questions. We are looking forward to interactive discussions.

The ERC & EIC Short talks address in particular the following target groups:

  • ERC Grantees interested in research transfer
  • EIC Pathfinder applicants and beneficiaries
  • EIC Transition Instrument applicants and beneficiaries
  • Members of Tech Transfer Offices (TTOs)
  • Research managers and administrators at universities, research institutions and companies
  • Enterprises interested in exploring funding opportunities at European level
