Initiative to Establish Fast-Charging Infrastructure in Areas That Are Currently Underserved

The federal government has set a clear goal: achieving climate neutrality by 2040. eMove Austria, the new umbrella brand of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Mobility, and Infrastructure (BMIMI), brings together funding programs, communication priorities, and framework conditions. Through eCharge—one of the pillars of the eMove Austria umbrella brand—the “LADIN – Charging Infrastructure” funding program will establish a secure framework in the medium and long term to achieve climate protection goals for the transportation sector in Austria. It specifically complements the fleet transition programs EBIN—Emissions-Free Buses and Infrastructure—and ENIN—Emissions-Free Commercial Vehicles and Infrastructure—and promotes the nationwide expansion of publicly accessible fast-charging infrastructure. The programme focuses on installing charging points for passenger cars (M1) and commercial vehicles (N1) in previously underserved areas along the lower-tier road network. Additional funding opportunities offered by the Climate and Energy Fund remain available at Umweltförderung.at.

Since 2024, LADIN has made a significant contribution to improving the charging infrastructure: funding was provided for more than 200 new fast-charging stations in regions that previously had little or no access to fast-charging options. As a result, the average distance to the nearest fast-charging station was reduced by more than two kilometers and is now less than six kilometers.

Funding is available for fast-charging stations with a minimum charging capacity of 50 kilowatts that are operated exclusively using renewable energy. In this way, LADIN makes a direct contribution to achieving Austria’s climate neutrality goals by 2040 and, at the same time, supports EU-wide efforts to achieve a climate-neutral economy by 2050.

By further expanding the fast-charging infrastructure, the program not only contributes to better regional coverage and accessibility, but also to the long-term transformation of the transportation sector toward sustainable and climate-friendly mobility—for Austria and beyond.
