For over 20 years, the COMET program has been promoting top-level research through federal and state support. All submitted applications undergo both internal evaluation within the FFG and external review by internationally recognized expert institutions. Detailed information about the selection process can be found in the respective call documents.

In COMET Projects, high-quality research is carried out through collaboration between academia and industry. The aim is to do research towards exploitable products, processes, and services that have strong development potential and can reach market maturity in the medium term. Funding is provided for a cooperative research program that creates clear added value for both industry and research.

Duration: 4 years | Call open from 24.03.2026 – 13.10.2026
COMET Modules fund projects that establish forward-looking research topics to strengthen Austria as a research location for future challenges. The research programme is jointly defined by academia and industry. COMET Modules are characterised by particularly high-risk research that goes significantly beyond the state of the art. COMET Modules are thematically open; however, topics should be clearly defined. Only existing COMET Centres (K1 and K2) are eligible to apply. Collaboration takes place with research partners and companies.

Duration: 8 years | Call open from April 1, 2025, to November 18, 2025
COMET Centres facilitate collaborative research programs where companies and research institutions work together on multi-year projects. These centres conduct excellent cooperative research at a high international level, setting new research impulses. They build relevant competencies and human resources, offering researchers diverse training and development opportunities. Successful centres are characterized by the dissemination of research results, both in the form of innovative products, processes, and services, as well as through high-quality publications. Internationalization, as a hallmark of excellent cooperative research, is evident through the involvement of internationally renowned researchers, organizations, and companies, as well as participation in international projects. COMET Centres contribute to addressing societal challenges in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and support the transformation of the Austrian economy towards sustainable change.
