Research infrastructures in Horizon Europe 2026

EU funding to strengthen, further develop and network European research infrastructures in Horizon Europe 2026 (HORIZON-INFRA-2026-01)

The "Research Infrastructures 2026" call supports projects to strengthen and further develop European research infrastructures. The aim is to improve their networking, sustainable use and open access to them for researchers in Europe and beyond.

What can be funded?

Projects are supported Further development, consolidation and networking of European research infrastructures in Horizon Europe. These include, among other things, measures to further develop these infrastructures strategically and organizationally, to improve their sustainable operation and to strengthen their use by the European and international research community.

Activities to open and integrate research infrastructures, to provide and further develop services for researchers, and to promote digital and data-based infrastructures in line with Open Science and FAIR principles are also supported European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). Depending on the topic, the development of new instruments, technologies and digital solutions for research infrastructures can also be the subject of funding.

Who can be funded?

Those organizations and institutions that are eligible for funding are: horizon Europe’s general participation and eligibility requirements fulfill. These are in the General Annexes, in particular  Annex B (Eligibility conditions), fixed.

Depending on the topic, you can additional or specific funding requirements apply (e. g. Special requirements for the type of research infrastructure, for the role of ESFRI or ERIC infrastructures, for the composition of the consortium or for international participation). This topic-specific conditions are described in the work program and in the specific tender text and are decisive for eligibility.

What is the amount of funding?

The amount of funding is topic-specific and depends on the respective tender conditions in the call “Research Infrastructures 2026” (HORIZON-INFRA-2026-01). The expected EU contribution per project varies depending on the topic and is usually between EUR 2 million and up to EUR 40 million .

The Funding rate depends on the type of project and organization being funded 70% or 100%. 
 

What are the submission criteria?

The submission criteria are in the European Commission tender documents described.

How does the submission work?

Submissions are made electronically via the “ EU Funding & Tenders Portal “ of the European Commission.

When will a decision be made?

The results of the evaluation will be available no later than five months after the submission deadline.
