Eureka Network Projects

Submission Opportunities for Bi- and Multilateral R&D Projects

Eureka network projects are international, market-oriented research and experimental development projects involving at least two companies from two different Eureka member countries (or associated partner countries). Eureka is open to all topics. The aim of a Eureka network project is to develop a product, process, or service.

Requirements for Eureka Projects

  • At least two independent companies from two different Eureka member countries (or from an associated partner country)
  • Balanced distribution of research activities and exploitation opportunities among project partners
  • Open to all topics (bottom-up)
  • Market-oriented research and experimental development (Technology Readiness Level 5–7)
  • Project goal: development of a product, process, or service
  • Non-military application
  • Submission at both national and international level

For Eureka Network and Globalstars projects, transnational project partners submit a joint Eureka application via the Eureka submission portal. A guide is available after registering in the portal.

In parallel, a national funding application is also required. In Austria, you can apply for any available funding, but it is recommended to submit the national application through the FFG General Programme via eCall. To facilitate Eureka alignment, the long title of the General Programme application should be the “Eureka Project Title”, and the short title should include the “Eureka Project Acronym”. It is also important that the national application carries the same project title as the international Eureka application.

In principle, Eureka network projects can be submitted on an ongoing basis, though some countries have specific calls. It is important that Austrian project partners also meet these deadlines to allow a coordinated funding decision by the funding agencies.

Selection Procedure

Evaluation of Eureka network projects is carried out nationally, according to each funding agency’s criteria and guidelines. Evaluation criteria that are considered by all national funding agencies include: market potential, innovation, and suitability of project partners.

If the project is positively evaluated by the national funding agencies, the Eureka label is awarded, and the national funding is subsequently disbursed.
