Mobility Transition 2026/1 – Mobility Technology

Driving mobility transition forward through R&D in vehicle technology and automated mobility

Main focus of the call for proposals for the Mobility Transition in spring 2026 is on innovative technologies and digital solutions that contribute to the goals of the Mobility Master Plan 2030.

What can be funded?

Projects can be submitted for the following focus areas:

Flagship Projects:

  • Traction batteries
  • Automated road freight mobility

Cooperative R&D Projects:

  • Electrified mobility: Traction batteries and hydrogen fuel cells for surface-bound vehicles
  • Charging infrastructure for surface-bound electric vehicles
  • Software Defined Vehicles
  • Battery retrofitting of diesel-hydraulic shunting locomotives

Mobilisation and Networking Activities:

  • Strategic Alliance for Automated Mobility in Austria

Who can be funded?

Target groups include companies, universities, research institutions and other stakeholders who contribute to the goals of the mobility transition.

What is the amount of funding?

A total of € 18,5 million is available for this call. 

What are the submission criteria?

Please refer to the respective instrument guidelines and the call for proposal guidelines for details on the submission criteria.

To submit a flagship project proposal, a mandatory preliminary meeting with BMIMI and FFG must be held by September 1, 2026 at the latest. Appointments should be scheduled in advance by contacting [email protected] (Traction batteries) or [email protected] (Automated road freight mobility).

How does the submission work?

Submissions must be made online via eCall and must be received by 12:00 noon on September 30, 2026.

When will a decision be made?

The decision is expected in December 2026.
