A major success for Austria as a location for innovation: in the latest call of the European Innovation Council (EIC), two Austrian spin-offs are among Europe’s top innovators. In total, three projects with Austrian participation were selected under the “EIC Transition” instrument of the EU programme Horizon Europe. Around 4.5 million euro will flow to Austria, with approximately 3 million euro allocated to the two spin-offs dawn bio (Vienna) and Ecolyte (Graz).
EIC Transition supports the further development of excellent research results towards application and market readiness. Funding is provided, among other things, for the validation of technologies, the development of viable business models and the creation of scalable companies. The programme is considered one of the most competitive funding instruments in Europe.
“When two Austrian spin-offs are among Europe’s top innovators, this sends a strong signal for Austria as a location for innovation. Such successes are flagship examples of our innovative strength and show that Austria can compete at the forefront internationally. Our objective is clear: to translate cutting-edge research more quickly into marketable products, thereby securing value creation, jobs and competitiveness in the country,” says Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Energy and Tourism.
“The EIC Transition supports the exploitation of excellent research results from European projects and guides them towards application and market. This is how innovations with international scaling potential are created,” says Henrietta Egerth, Managing Director of the FFG.
