Research, Technologies and Innovations In and From Austria for Climate-Neutral Aviation

To achieve European and national climate targets, the Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Technology (BMIMI) is pursuing a holistic transformation of the mobility sector. This approach aims to promote technical, social and organizational innovations, not only to foster new business models but also to enable a sustainable reshaping of mobility. A key pillar of these efforts is the financial support of research, technology and innovation—especially in the context of fundamental questions related to sustainable aviation. This strategic orientation forms an essential cornerstone of BMIMI’s measures and is intended to help create forward-looking, sustainable mobility.

In order to implement the research, technology and innovation (RTI) measures and to meet the objectives of the RTI Strategy for Aviation 2040+, a variety of targeted instruments are employed. These include exploratory studies, cooperative research and development projects, flagship initiatives, innovation labs, research and development services, and endowed professorships. The focus of this RTI funding is needs-oriented, with special attention paid to effective actions that advance research and development in the aviation sector. This approach ensures that RTI measures address current challenges and opportunities, drive innovative technologies and solutions forward, and successfully realize the goals of the RTI Strategy for Aviation 2040+.

The target group comprises companies, universities, research institutions and other relevant stakeholders who contribute to the objectives of research, technology and innovation (RTI) in and from Austria toward a climate-neutral mobility system in the field of aviation.
