International partnerships

International cooperation is regarded as a precondition for the global advancement of knowledge. International partnerships in forward-looking research fields play a significant role in solving major global and societal challenges.

The Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) is the national funding agency for industrial research,  development and innovation in Austria. As a "one-stop shop" offering a diversified and targeted programme portfolio, the FFG gives Austrian businesses and research institutions quick and uncomplicated access to research funding.

Over the past 10 years the FFG has played a significant role in increasing returns from the EU research programmes and maintaining them at a high level. In all, Austria has secured almost a billion euros in project funding from the EU's 7th Research Framework Programme. National space research activities in the context of the European Space Agency ESA (Chair of ESA Council since 1 July 2014) have also been considerably expanded.

In addition to managing Austrian participation in the EU's Research Framework Programme, the FFG has also been involved in a series of further activities designed to strengthen international networks. They include initiatives mandated by the EU Commission to strengthen European and bilateral cooperation with Russia and the USA, over 100 calls under the ERA-NET scheme with a total funding volume of over EUR 81 million, as well as a bilateral agreement with Israel signed in 2013.

Fundings

Programs like Horizon 2020, EUREKA, ERA-Net, COST and others offer many possibilities for international cooperation in research & development.
