Eureka is a European-international network for applied research and development (R&D) in Europe, providing companies and research organisations with a framework for cross-border collaborative projects. Currently, 40 countries and the European Union are Eureka members. South Africa, Chile, and Argentina are associated partner countries.
Austria’s Participation in Eureka Instruments
- Eureka network projects can generally be submitted on an ongoing basis; they are evaluated and funded nationally (in Austria through the general programmes). In addition, three to four calls are held each year with Eureka member countries or associated partner countries. These calls include networking activities and events to support the search for transnational partners for Eureka network projects.
- Eurostars has been a tailored funding programme for R&D-driven SMEs since 2007. Since 2021, the successor programme, Eurostars-3, has been running as a joint funding initiative of over 30 Eureka member countries and the European Union.
- Globalstars is a Eureka network funding instrument that allows Eureka member countries to launch calls with countries outside the network. In open calls, Austrian companies can participate as part of a consortium submitting Globalstars projects.
- Eureka Clusters are industry-led initiatives focusing on technology areas of strategic interest for (pre-)competitive research and development. Their goal is to specifically promote the development of new products and applications through networking and to strengthen the European economy in the global market.
