Nationale Umsetzung EU-Missionen: Quick Infos

Logo nationale Umsetzung der EU-Missionen
The EU Missions aim to achieve progress that benefits society as a whole. And this is only possible through strong collaboration! Experts from various fields and organizations work together with the public, allowing multiple perspectives to be incorporated into planning and implementation. The measures undertaken within the EU Missions are innovative, efficient, and focused on sustainability.

The EU Missions have set ambitious goals to be achieved by 2030 that will have a positive impact on everyone in Austria. Through the Mission Cancer, we aim to save more than 3 million lives across the EU and improve both the lifespan and quality of life of those affected. The Mission Adaptation to Climate Change prepares us to face the challenges of climate change and supports the transition to a healthy and prosperous future that remains within the ecological limits of our planet. The Mission Climate-Neutral Cities supports cities on their path toward climate neutrality. With the Mission A Soil Deal for Europe, we are restoring our soils and ecosystems to ensure healthier food and a healthier environment. Finally, the Mission Restore our Oceans and Waters helps us to rehabilitate and protect our lakes and rivers.

The national implementation of the EU Missions focuses on:

  • The broad inclusion of perspectives from society, research, science, business, and politics

  • The development and promotion of forward-looking projects

  • The efficient, economical, and responsible use of public funds

Detailed information on the Missions can be found here.

Funding Opportunities

To tackle major challenges, we need the right tools and a solid understanding. The national implementation of the EU Missions relies on both. Each federal province can contribute its knowledge and potential. The Mission Management Unit organizes exchange events in every province in cooperation with regional governments and local partners. These events allow interested stakeholders to contribute their expertise on the EU Missions directly and individually.

In addition, a wide range of support measures is available to assist the national implementation of the EU Missions.

Open Calls and Funding Opportunities:

On national level:

  • Research and demonstration projects for the development of climate-neutral, resilient, and climate-adapted cities

The call “Technologies and Innovations for the Climate-Neutral City 2025” (TIKS) by the Federal Ministry for Climate Action (BMK) and the Climate and Energy Fund aims to support cities and municipalities in implementing climate neutrality and climate adaptation. The funding targets projects in the areas of urban technology development, system innovation, pilot demonstrations, and qualification networks that combine technological and social innovation. With a total budget of around 23 million euros, the programme is designed to support especially pioneer cities in developing and implementing innovative solutions.
