The RTI priority area “Mobility Transition” comprises two tracks. First, it promotes mobility technologies in the areas of climate-neutral propulsion systems, environmentally friendly and recyclable materials and vehicle systems, digitalization, and automated mobility. Second, it supports system innovations and demonstration projects that address appropriate organisational structures, business models, and infrastructure, as well as societal and institutional frameworks. This is because the mobility transition requires the interplay of both dimensions: technological innovations provide the tools. System innovations ensure that these tools are effectively integrated into a sustainable transportation and mobility system.
The "Zero-Emission Mobility“ programme focuses on technology- and implementation-oriented projects in the field of electric mobility aimed at integrating components, systems, and services into a holistic and interoperable mobility system.
The "Digital Transformation in Mobility“ programme supports the implementation of the measures set forth in the action plan of the same name ( AP-DTM ) with the goal of making the best possible use of digitalization to address the challenges facing the mobility system. The focus here is not only on the use of new technologies, but also on creating an appropriate organizational framework.
"Rail4Climate“ supports the mobility transition by increasing capacity and productivity in the Austrian rail sector. This is achieved primarily by translating European and national research findings into practical applications for the digitalisation and automation of the rail system through the funding of prototype testing.”
IPCEI (Important Project of Common European Interest) is designed to facilitate transnational cooperation and support the entire value chain of strategically important projects—from research through to initial industrial implementation—through state aid. Following a nomination by participating European Union member states and notification by the European Commission, individual projects are supported with state aid outside the scope of the GBER (General Block Exemption Regulation).
The “EBIN—Zero-Emission Buses and Infrastructure” and “ENIN—Zero-Emission Commercial Vehicles and Infrastructure” funding programs form the core of the fleet transition programs under the BMIMI’s e-mobility initiative. The “LADIN – Charging Infrastructure” funding program, which provides funding for the installation of publicly accessible fast-charging infrastructure in currently underserved areas, is a complementary funding program designed to improve the expansion and accessibility of fast-charging infrastructure in Austria.
