Projektbeschreibung

Abstract

SW ecosystems are a major element of future SW engineering with the aim to establish a common market for software and services among collaborating organizations. In contrast to application-oriented and open source ecosystems, which are often in focus today, industrial SW ecosystems must consider not only the quality of the platform to a much higher degree, but also the quality of each ecosystem application in a market place. So far there are no foundational research results, and as a result there are only very limited number of options for an ecosystem keystone organization to efficiently specify, analyze, and enforce the quality in an ecosystem. In contrast to the delivery of a single application, an ecosystem keystone organization needs to care for the quality of delivery of numerous ecosystem applications. So far in this context only rigid quality measures exist, enabling little variability for the individual applications’ needs. The research project DECO will combine DevOps concepts with SW ecosystems to establish quality barriers during ecosystem application delivery. The aim is to develop rigorously specified formalisms and foundational methods enabling an ecosystem keystone organization to make rigorous specifications for the desired qualities in the ecosystem as a whole and in its applications, which are flexible enough and not too rigid. Here, DECO aims to automatically detect violations of quality specifications in a SW ecosystem. This should help to analyze both ecosystem-wide dependencies and specific applications and their delivery in depth. If quality problems are detected, DECO will offer concepts and technologies for automatic quality improvement, which can be applied in a continuous feedback loop. So far in all those areas, foundational research results on which industrial researchers could build new solutions are missing. Based on the current state of the art, today’s industrial SW ecosystems cannot sufficiently be supported with directly applicable results. Thus the goal of DECO is to systematically study foundations for the next generation of industrial SW ecosystems, which will emerge during the coming years and be widely applied in the period 2025-2030. All developed foundational methods and prototypical tools will be fully scientifically validated.
