Projektbeschreibung

Abstract

Heavy rain and extreme weather events have increased in recent years due to climate change. Urban regions are particularly affected as most of the precipitation is drained into the sewage system because of the high rate of sealed surfaces. The results are potentially enormous costs for municipalities. This can be remedied by sustainable, integrative rainwater management. The combination of different blue-green infrastructures, e.g. green roofs and facades, seepage systems, cisterns and other retention solutions, can buffer the precipitation and make valuable water available for urban flora and fauna. Evaporative cooling can reduce urban overheating and improve the life quality of residents. The planning, execution and operation of such a system often pose major problems for those affected due to the complexity and abundance of system solutions. Not every project, whether new construction or renovation, exploits the full retentional potential. The Rainwater Toolbox is intended to remedy this by simply showing user-group-specific and project-related solutions for sustainable precipitation management. Best practice models for a wide variety of building types are created and made accessible via a web application based on an extensive system database (Rainwater Database) as well as predefined parameters. The concept on which the Toolbox is based was awarded first prize in the course of the Co-Creation LAB Vienna "Rainwater in the City"(hosted by the Vienna Business Agency and City of Vienna). This exploratory project aims to develop, review and refine the internal processes of the web application and the database. In addition, potential stakeholders should be identified as well as profit and non-profit business models created. In order to ensure the greatest possible dissemination and best possible integration in all phases of a project, from concept to planning, construction to operation and possible renovations, compatibility with the Building Information Modeling (BIM) is essential. This enables a wide range of stakeholders and trades to access data, to edit it together and to react quickly and without loss of information in the event of changes to the plan. The necessary interfaces, standards (e.g. through data processing in the IFC standard) and parameters will be developed in the project. A proof of concept on the real object guarantees the consistency of the data and parameters. Stakeholder discussions and dissemination create a presence in the (professional) public. This holistic approach of a simple, user-group-optimized web application, supplemented by maximum compatibility with BIM, covers the needs of almost all potential stakeholders in the best possible way and guarantees broad applicability.
